FULL ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival – Vientiane
Upon arrival in Vientiane, our first stop will be at the major temples of the city. We'll visit Wat Sisaket, renowned for its collection of miniature Buddha statues, followed by the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, known for the Emerald Buddha Image. We'll then proceed to Laos' national symbol, That Luang Stupa, with opportunities along the way to capture photos of the majestic Patuxay Monument, often likened to Vientiane's Arc de Triomphe. Our final visit of the day will be to the COPE Center, established in 1997 to support UXO survivors with orthotic and prosthetic devices following the Indochina War.
Overnight in Vientiane.
Day 2: Vientiane – Vang Vieng (B)
After an early breakfast, we'll embark on a journey to northern Laos, driving through scenic countryside for about 4 hours before ascending into the mountains. Along the way, enjoy stunning natural landscapes and visit a local market where various hill tribes gather to trade goods and purchase supplies. We'll have lunch at the Organic Farm in Vang Vieng, offering a variety of traditional Lao dishes along with samples of goat cheese and mulberry wine.
In the afternoon, we'll explore the renowned Tham Jang Cave, historically used by locals as a refuge from Chinese invaders during wartime. The remainder of the day is free for exploring Vang Vieng on foot or by bicycle, taking a boat ride upstream on the river, or simply relaxing at the hotel.
Overnight in Vang Vieng.
Day 3: Vang Vieng – Luang Prabang (Baci Ceremony) (B, L, D)
Today, we'll spend the morning driving through breathtaking scenery and visiting numerous hill tribe villages. Lunch will be served at approximately 1,300 meters above sea level, amidst the majestic mountain peaks of this remote region.
After lunch, we'll continue our journey on Route 13 and arrive in Luang Prabang by late afternoon. In the evening, you have the option to attend the Traditional Baci & Cultural Show. The Baci ceremony is a traditional Phi Ritual in Laos, marking important life events such as births, marriages, and new beginnings. Locals will tie strings around participants' wrists to impart blessings for good luck. During dinner, enjoy a traditional dance performance showcasing local culture.
Overnight in Luang Prabang
Day 4: Luang Prabang – Full Day City Tour (B)
This morning, our tour begins with a bicycle ride to the Royal Palace Museum, showcasing fascinating artifacts from Luang Prabang's royal history when it served as Laos’ capital. Next, we'll visit the impressive Wat Xiengthong, known for its classical Lao architecture with a long, sweeping roof close to the ground. Nearby, explore the notable stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham.
After returning to the hotel for lunch, late afternoon brings a visit to the Arts and Ethnology Centre to learn more about Laos’ diverse ethnic cultures. We'll then head to Mount Phousi, where a sacred gilded stupa offers panoramic views of the city and sunset over the Mekong River. Descending the mountain, don’t miss the famous Luang Prabang Night Market, bustling with a wide array of local products including handicrafts, textiles, and street food crafted by ethnic Lao and hill tribe artisans from the region.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 5: Luang Prabang – Khouangsi Waterfall – Pak Ou Caves (B, L)
In the early morning, you can participate in the traditional Alms Giving ritual, where saffron-clad monks collect offerings from local residents—a unique custom that remains in Laos, distinguishing it as the only Buddhist nation to uphold this practice.
After breakfast, en route to Khouangsi Waterfall, we'll stop at the bustling Phousi Market, where locals shop for a variety of Lao goods such as dried buffalo skin, local tea, poultry, fish, and fresh fruits.
Upon arrival at Khouangsi Waterfall, particularly refreshing in summer, you can take a dip in the clear pools beneath the falls to cool off. Alternatively, stroll along forest pathways and visit the Bear Sanctuary if swimming isn't your plan.
Returning to Luang Prabang, we'll enjoy a scenic cruise up the Mekong River to the mystical Pak Ou Caves, known for housing thousands of ancient gold-lacquered Buddha images—a former pilgrimage site.
After disembarking, you can opt for a short drive to Ban Phanom, renowned for its traditional hand weaving, or return to the hotel for some leisure time.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 6: Luang Prabang – Living Land Farm (B)
Today promises to be engaging as we visit Living Land Farm, located 5 kilometers from town. Here, you'll immerse yourself in the workings of a community farm, learning about the complete rice-growing process. Tasks include identifying viable rice seeds, plowing with a buffalo, hand planting, weeding, harvesting rice, and threshing rice seeds.
After a morning on the farm, you'll enjoy a meal where you can pick fresh vegetables from the organic garden or catch fish for lunch. Sample local rice products will also be available. We'll return to Luang Prabang in the late afternoon.
